Service learning is built into the Communication Sciences and Disorders major courses such that students will have the opportunity to interact with and provide service to individuals through the geographic region of Milwaukee and Ozaukee County and more. One on one mentoring with faculty members will support you as you develop your skills and interests, preparing you for research and clinical practice opportunities. Examples include (but are not limited to):
- LUMIN Schools: Granville and St. Martini
- Hearing Screenings
- Preschool Language and Literacy camp
- Milwaukee Public Schools
Careers in Speech-Language Pathology
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults.
SLPs work in many different education, health care, and research settings with varying roles, levels of responsibility, and diverse client populations serving individuals across the lifespan. In many settings, SLPs often work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, which may include teachers, physicians, audiologists, psychologists, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, and rehabilitation counselors.
Undergrad Clinical Opportunities
Undergraduate Seniors in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program may apply to participate in clinical opportunities on campus at the 91自拍 Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic and off campus at LUMIN Schools. Senior status does not guarantee clinical opportunity, but does allow students to apply for consideration.
