Concordia’s Accelerated Program for Teacher Licensure (CAPTL) is for a person who has a bachelor’s degree in any field and is looking to become a licensed teacher. You can become a teacher with the right training and support. Online courses allow you to successfully manage work and school commitments. Develop your teaching strategies and skills through on-site experiences in schools and focus your licensure in a specific area from childhood to 12th grade.

Program Overview

Build your foundational knowledge in education through online courses and group discussions with your peers. Learn the latest theories and practices that are being utilized from practicing teachers that serve as your professors. You will observe students and teachers in an approved school as you transition to clinical experiences. You will complete the program with a semester of student teaching under supervision for continued support and feedback.

What to Expect
  • Classes are small and students receive personal attention from faculty who serve in academia or from those actively teaching in a school 
  • 8-week sessions
  • Multiple opportunities to start the program throughout the academic year. You must start at the beginning of any 8-week session.
  • Utilizes an online blended format. Courses are taken online with a definitive start and end date. Each 8-week course will require you to attend one session on a Saturday via Zoom at a scheduled time.
  • (45) clinical hours required
  • (25) pre-student teaching hours required
  • Student teach during your final semester
  • In addition, each licensure level may have specific requirements 
  • Transfer in up to 50% of your graduate credits
